SUNDAY SERMON

The sermon for Sunday, June 9, will be on Philippians 1:18b-26, where Paul joyfully exclaims, for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 

Read this passage to prepare your heart for the preaching of God’s Word. 

PRAY

For the month of June 2024, we will be using meditations on Psalm 23:1-2 for our prayer guide each day.  

“for his name’s sake.” – Meditate upon God’s glory. He does all things for the glory of his name that you may delight in him. As John Piper says, “God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in him.”   

You can also take some time bring these things before the Lord. 

• Confess your sins. 
• The Lost 
• Your Needs 

QUESTIONS FOR FAITH GROUPS

• Paul named two “means of deliverance” in verse 19. Name them and discuss how those are applicable today. How should we pray for those struggling, and those being persecuted for their witness to Jesus Christ? 
• What was Paul’s ambition, as he makes clear in 20-21, and how is that applicable to us? 
• How did Paul view his own life and death in light of the gospel? 
• In what sense is death “gain”? 
• What is “joy in the faith”? And what should that mean for us, as Christians?
